The palaces of the Chamber of Deputies
From 1870 the Italian Chamber of Deputies has had its seat in Palazzo Montecitorio, a building rich with history and works of art. Nevertheless, the whole of the activity is carried out from many other surrounding buildings and offices which concur to perform the services necessary for the function of Parliamentary operations.
In the last twenty years the House has particularly extended its presence to the historical center of the Capital, purchasing various properties of the State, restoring them and putting them at the disposal of the Members, the Administration and the citizens. Today the Chamber of Deputies, together with the Senate, constitute a real parliamentary city in the heart of the Rome's historical center, also open to the public: every day more than 5000 people, including deputies, employees, journalists, scholars and visitors, come enter the building.
