Montecitorio with open doors
Being institutional offices, the palaces of the Chamber of Deputies are open to the public and, among compatibility with the operations of parliament, through the years they have become a reference point for important artistic and cultural manifestations.
Every first Sunday of the month the initiative of "Montecitorio a porte aperte" or "Montecitorio with open doors" offers citizens the possibility of an inside visit to the building of Montecitorio, the hall and the main representative halls, and to admire the numerous works of art that are conserved here.
Every year the House hosts about one hundred thousand students who come to visit from all over Italy. To high school classes, who do research and want to deepen their knowledge regarding Parliament, the House offers the possibility to spend an entire day at Montecitorio, to assist in hearings, to discuss topics about their research with competent deputies, and to perform organizational activities on internet and in the library.
With the aim of forming closer relations between parliamentary institutions and citizens, the House organizes exhibitions, conventions, debates, book presentations, theatrical or literary recitals, and classical music concerts as well as military band concerts which are performed regularly in Piazza Montecitorio.
